December 2024 Report and January 2025 Updates

Press On Towards Purpose

“Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.”
— Philippians 3:12-14

A new year is an opportunity to reset and renew our commitment towards God’s purpose. Just as Paul’s journey of faith exemplifies perseverance, we too are called to focus on Christ and press on toward our unique calling. Each year brings its own challenges and opportunities, but with God’s guidance, we can grow and make a lasting impact.

Paul reminds us to forget what is behind and focus on what lies ahead. While the past holds valuable lessons, it should not define our future. Growth comes from letting go of regrets, celebrating God’s faithfulness, and trusting Him to lead us forward.

Challenge: Identify one area where you feel stuck—whether it’s a mistake, fear, or even a past success that’s become a comfort zone. Take time to surrender it to God, asking Him for the courage to move forward.

Example: Reflect on the story of Peter. Despite denying Christ three times, Peter found redemption and became a pillar of the early church. Like Peter, we can rise from our failures and embrace God’s plan.

Setting goals provides direction, but they must align with God’s purpose. Paul’s purpose was to know Christ and fulfill the mission He entrusted to him. As part of God’s kingdom, our goals should reflect His greater plan for our lives.

Action Step: Pray for clarity on what God wants you to pursue this year. Write down specific goals that align with your spiritual growth, relationships, and personal development. Remember, God delights in guiding His children.

Illustration: Think of Joseph. Despite the detours and hardships, Joseph’s unwavering faith in God’s purpose allowed him to rise to a position of influence and fulfill God’s promise to his family.

Pressing on requires determination and faith. Challenges and distractions are inevitable, but our focus must remain on Christ. Like a runner in a race, we must fix our eyes on the ultimate prize, drawing strength from God to endure.

Encouragement: Hebrews 12:1-2 reminds us to throw off everything that hinders us and run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.

Practical Tip: Break your goals into smaller steps and celebrate each milestone as evidence of God’s work in your life.

Paul’s prize was not earthly recognition but the joy of knowing Christ and fulfilling His calling. This perspective helps us prioritize what truly matters. Temporal achievements can be meaningful, but they should ultimately serve an eternal purpose.

Reflection: Are you investing your time and energy in pursuits that honor God and bless others? Take a moment to evaluate your priorities and make adjustments as needed.

Illustration: Consider the parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30). The servants who invested their talents wisely were commended, while the one who buried his talent missed the opportunity to glorify his master. Let’s strive to use our gifts for God’s glory.

This year, commit to setting three types of goals that reflect God’s purpose for your life:

  1. Spiritual Goal: Deepen your relationship with God through daily prayer, Bible study, or participating in a small group.
  2. Relational Goal: Invest in meaningful connections by mentoring, encouraging others, or resolving conflicts in love.
  3. Personal Goal: Develop a skill or pursue a passion that can be used to serve others and glorify God.
  4. Community Involvement: Share your goals with a trusted friend or mentor for accountability and encouragement.

Father, thank You for the gift of a new year. Help us to let go of the past, align our goals with Your purpose, and press on with perseverance. Strengthen us to prioritize what matters most and glorify You in all we do. May our lives reflect Your love and truth, impacting others for Your kingdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen
